“Meanwhile we prayed (according to custom), asking the Lord for a blessed outcome and happy victory. The Portuguese, noting that they would be engaged again, hastily cut their anchor-rope, raised their topmasts and yard-arms, and (while we were busy raising our anchor) took course (with one of the other yachts) straight upriver until they ran aground.
